The Pinhole Surgical Technique™ in Potomac, MD

The Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST™) is an innovative new type of receding gums repair that requires only a single tiny opening be made in the gums. This means patients will experience minimal pain and a reduced healing period. Patients with moderate to severe gum recession can contact Taff & Levine DDS to learn more about the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ in Potomac, MD.

Why is it necessary?

Gum recession is considered a fairly serious condition that needs to be treated as soon as possible. This is because the gum tissue plays several important roles. The first role is to protect the teeth from plaque and bacteria. When the gum line recedes, your teeth become vulnerable and are more likely to experience decay and damage on the root surfaces. The second function is hold your teeth in place along with the supporting bone. In cases of severe gum recession due to gum disease, your teeth’s support structures can be damaged to the point where the teeth come loose and shift out of place. Receding gums surgery is necessary to protect your teeth and oral health.

How does PST™ work?

This is a innovated and revolutionary new type of receding gum repair. Many patients and doctors are beginning to see PST™ as the new standard when it comes to receding gums surgery. Not only is it minimally invasive, it also requires less healing time. First, Taff & Levine DDS will make a single pinhole sized entry point in the gum tissue. Through this small incision, a series of tools will be inserted and used to loosen the tissue. Then, the gums can be pulled over to conceal the tooth root and increase coverage. Once in place, tiny collagen strips that dissolve in 30 days are used to hold the gums in their new position while healing takes place.

Patients in need of receding gums surgery may benefit from treatment with PST™. Contact Taff & Levine DDS to learn more about the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ in Potomac, MD.
